Fearing’s Employee Spotlight: Lois Fearing

Doug Fearing Employee, Making a Difference

A Job Well Done!
Join Us in Celebrating Lois Fearing’s 23 years of service!

After dedicating 23 years of service and being second in command at Fearing’s Audio Video Security, as well as performing the accounting, HR, and other management duties, Lois Fearing is stepping away from her daily involvement in the company. One constant in the two decades of her service to the company has been that of change. Lois recounts how the first office housing Fearing’s was a 600 square foot facility located in Portage, with only 5 staff. The core business then was satellite television, back in the days of 8’ dishes planted in yards, compared to today, when Fearing’s has offices located in Madison and Milwaukee with nearly 50 staff providing and servicing many platforms within the low voltage industry.

When asked about the most enjoyable aspects of her tenure with Fearing’s, Lois quickly replies “It’s the people I work with. I have gotten to know many wonderful employees, their families as well as the customers we have served”.

Looking back, Lois recounts fond memories of being a part of the company with the many gatherings and parties held, such as employee parties at their lake home, Christmas parties, a boat trip in the Dells, Bowling for Kid’s Sake, baseball games, and numerous other employee engagement functions. One highlight that stands out is the Fearing’s Team participation in the Salvation Army’s first-ever Lip Sync Competition fundraiser.

Lois states, “It was such a blast as we performed the Blues Brothers, “Shake Your Tail Feather.”

Family is of great importance to Lois and she enjoys spending quality time with husband, Doug, her daughters, and grandchildren. Lois and Doug have been married for 43 years and live on Swan Lake near Portage. Their youngest daughter, Jenny, lives in the mountains of Colorado with her husband and two children. Jamie, their oldest, lives in Portage and is married to David Poley, a Security Design Engineer at Fearing’s, and are foster parents. Lois is also a great-grandmother to Kamden Koch, son of granddaughter Anna Koch and her husband, Jake.

Looking ahead to retiring from her Fearing’s day to day duties, Lois plans on staying busy with non-profit work, traveling, and family time. Ten years ago, through Divine providence, Lois and Doug were led to become involved in the mission of Schools for Haiti. For the past 7 years, they have been instrumental in hosting a fundraising Gala for the Schools, which is a major undertaking.   In addition, Lois will now be able to expand her involvement in the Columbia County mentorship program called Kinship Mentoring of Columbia County, which she and Doug were instrumental in launching. https://www.facebook.com/KinshipColumbiaCounty/ )

Lois enjoys traveling and is looking forward to more opportunities to explore. She and Doug have traveled to many places with some of her favorite trips being: The White Mountains of New Hampshire, Yellowstone National Park, Yosemite, Colorado, the Pink Shell Resort in Fort Myers, FL, a family trip to Cocoa Beach, and trips to Mexico, to name a few. Traveling to Oregon and Colorado to spend time with her daughters, grandkids and visiting family will be a must.
For a personal hobby, Lois is taking voice lessons and hopes to use this talent as a blessing to others.
Lois is very grateful for her relationships with staff and their families, the multitude of vendors, and all the loyal customers, wishing them the best.
Lois closes with, “It has been a great 23 years, with great people and great customers!”
Lois will continue to serve on the Executive Board and provide her input on major business decisions.
